Installation Guide

Threaded spacer/leveller clips are inserted underneath the tile edges or at joint intersections, into the bed of adhesive, before the adjacent tiles are positioned. The anti-scratch washer (use optional) is placed onto the bottom of the Levelling Cylinder (fits both the Standard and PRO Cylinders) which is then screwed onto the threaded spacer/leveller clip until the tiles are drawn level.

The Standard Levelling Dome is designed for easy tightening by hand and spins freely within the anti-scratch washer, preventing any marking on delicate surfaces and allowing for quick installation. The PRO Dome is faster to use, see part description for details.

Once the tiles are laid and levelled, leave until the adhesive is dry. The Cylinders and Spacer/Leveller Screws can then be easily removed by giving the domes a sharp tap with a rubber headed mallet, or by a kick, ideally in a parallel direction to the tile edge. This will cause the screw to break off at a level with the tile base leaving the joints clear and ready for grouting. The used leveller screws can be removed from the Cylinders and Washers which can then be saved for re-use.

Frequently Asked Questions: Cylinder Tile Levelling Systems

Choosing a System

Why choose a Professional System?

StrataRise professional quality systems offer the widest choice of different thickness Spacer Screw Clips for fitting under the tile sides. In addition, unlike many other similar systems, Screw Clips are also available for Cross Spacing and T-Spacing. The use of spacer leveller screw clips in the cross joints can halve the number of screws needed and, at the same time, greatly improve the accuracy of installations ensuring perfect alignment of joints and grout lines. Consistent material controls and quality moulding helps avoid unexpected breakages when applying levelling pressures. Re-usable screw cylinders designed for maximum speed and reliability.

Product Selection & Compatibility

What tile thicknesses are compatible with the StrataRise cylinder system?

Our system is designed for a wide range of tiles. The threaded spacer/leveller screws are available in different thicknesses (from 1mm to 4mm) to suit popular tile spacings. The levelling cylinders themselves can accommodate tiles from 3mm to 24mm (1/8" to 1") in thickness, making them suitable for both wall and floor tiles.

What is the difference between the Standard, Pro, and Swift levelling cylinders?

We offer three types to match your workflow:

  • Standard Screw-on Cylinder: The original design. It screws all the way down the threaded clip to apply tension. It's reliable and spins freely within the anti-scratch cup washer if used.
  • Pro Levelling Cylinder: Designed for faster installation. It slides down to the tile surface, and a simple quarter turn clockwise engages the thread to allow tightening. A quarter turn anti-clockwise releases the used screws quickly. Enables considerabe time savings on larger jobs and for professional users.
  • Swift Cylinder: Our newest and fastest of all options comes complete with an integrated anti-scratch cup. You push it straight down to the tile surface, then squeeze and turn to lock and tension. It automatically releases the used spacer clip on removal.

Which spacer/leveller screw (I, T, or X shape) should I use?

The choice depends on your tile size and layout:

  • I-Shape Screw Clips: Ideal for use along the edges of tiles, typically two or three per side depending on tile size.
  • T-Shape Screw Clips: Designed for use in the junctions between tiles when brick pattern laying is used.
  • Cross-Shape Screw Clips: Used at the intersection of four tiles. Using these at cross joints can halve the number of screws needed and significantly improve the alignment of your grout lines, compared to using I-shaped screws at the sides of the tiles.

Are the cylinders and anti-scratch cups re-usable?

Yes, absolutely. The Standard, Pro, and Swift cylinders, as well as the anti-scratch cups, are designed to be re-used indefinitely. After you have broken off the used spacer screws, you simply remove them from the cylinder and cup, and they are ready for your next project. This makes the system economical and reduces waste.

Usage & Installation

How does the anti-scratch system work?

All StrataRise cylinders are compatible with our Anti-Scratch Cups (the Swift cylinder has one built-in). The cup sits between the rotating part of the cylinder and the tile surface. This means no moving parts come into contact with the tile, effectively preventing scratches and marks, especially important on polished or delicate tile surfaces.

How do I remove the levelling clips and cylinders after the adhesive has dried?

Once the tile adhesive is fully dry, removal is simple. Give the top of the cylinder a sharp tap with a rubber mallet in a direction parallel to the tile edge. This impact will cause the threaded spacer screw to snap off cleanly at the base of the tile, leaving the gap clear and ready for grouting.

Is this system suitable for a DIY user, or is it just for professionals?

While designed to meet professional standards for speed and consistency, the StrataRise system is also ideal for DIY enthusiasts. The "tool-free" design means everything is done by hand, and the clear installation steps make it easy to achieve a professional, lippage-free result on your tiling projects.
